Winter's Brewing

As our nation's brewers battle frosty weather to keep up a good flow of the amber nectar, we ask 8 Wired brewer Soren Eriksen for his winter survival tips

Describe your perfect winter’s day

Any day that’s not wet and windy is a pretty perfect winter’s day. We used to live in Blenheim and definitely miss the crisp, cold, sunny days.

What drinks will you be tucking into over the colder months?

My drinking habits don’t really change with the seasons, but maybe I’ll sneak in a few more stouts. (Try 8 Wired’s Batch 21
Imperial Stout, or Flat White Coffee Milk Stout).

What’s on your plate on a frosty day?

A big steaming pot of slow-cooked Mexican-style chilli sounds delicious.

What are your biggest challenges in the brewery over the  winter?

Winter is usually a bit easier and quieter for us in the brewery, as people tend to drink less beer at this time of year. The upside being that this will give us more time to work on our barrel-aged beer programme – but that is more fun than a challenge.
