Nelson Wine Tour

This Monday is Nelson Anniversary Day. If you don’t live there (and don’t get a holiday) console yourself with our pick of top wines from the region. If you do live in Nelson – bottoms up!

Nelson is known for producing predominantly sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot gris wines (in that order), and according to the book NZ Wine by Warren Moran, it has an ideal mix of climate, soils and terrain to make fine wines. We don’t know about the technical stuff, but we do agree that Nelson wines are fantastic. Let Toast take you on a virtual wine tour of some of our favourites…

Tohu Nelson Pinot Gris

Open this beauty and you’ll be met with smells of pear-drop, stonefruit and fresh citrus, while tastes of red apple, juicy ripe pear and pleasing sweetness will take you to heaven.

Waimea Nelson Sauvignon Blanc

If the aromas of tropical fruit, citrus blossom, nectarine, mandarin and herbs don’t have you instantly looking up Nelson property prices, we reckon the flavour of passionfruit and hit of juicy acidity will.

Seifried Estate Nelson Chardonnay

Aromas of stone and tropical fruits, and nutty toasted characteristics deliver in the mouth with spice, oak, baked stone fruits and hints of rich apple. Treat your tastebuds.

Neudorf Sauvignon Blanc

Frangipani, fresh florals, fennel, green papaya and passionfruit. No, it’s not a bunch of flowers or a fruit salad, it’s the smells and tastes that await you in this delicious bottle of ripe and rich sauvignon.

Aronui Single Vineyard Nelson Pinot Noir

Do you fancy the idea of a full bodied wine with scents of dark fruit, bright cherry and savoury oak, and flavours of dark berries, black plum, spice and earthy notes? Of course you do!
