Top five: quirky cocktail glossary

Forget martinis, margaritas and G&Ts, Toast casts the norm aside and digs deep into the drinks world to discover the quirkiest of cocktail names

WARNING: If you request these at your local bar, you might get some blank stares in return.

Fuzzy Navel

A two-ingredient cocktail made from peach schnapps and orange juice. When vodka is added to the Fuzzy Navel, it becomes a Hairy Navel due to the increased strength of the drink.

Irish Trash Can

Traditionally, this drink is supposedly a mix of all the bartender’s leftover drinks at the end of the night. However, it can be made without pre-drunk drinks (phew!) by mixing equal parts of gin, Red Bull, rum and vodka.

Brass Monkey

A mix of vodka, dark rum, orange juice and ice. In 1986, the Beastie Boys released a song called Brass Monkey which made the drink famous.

Death in the Afternoon

A very sinister sounding tipple consisting of a dash of absinthe in a small amount of champagne.

Staten Island Ferry

A cocktail consisting of equal parts Malibu Rum and pineapple juice – like a Pina Colada but without the coconut milk.
