Get yourself in the draw to win a Double Weekend Superpass to the carnival for carnivores, with craft beer from Liberty and some of the meatiest names in barbecue
If you’re a fan of smoked and barbecued meats, craft beer and good Kiwi bands, Meatstock music and barbecue festival is one to put on your summer calendar now.
Held in Auckland from the 24th-25th February, the weekend includes classes from two hot pitmasters – Tuffy Stone from the US and Hillbilly Wes from Australia, plus craft beer from Liberty Brewing, live bands, BBQ food trucks, demonstrations, workshops, and the second Meatstock NZ Barbecue Wars and NZ’s Best Butcher competitions, plus the quest to find NZ’s best burger, wings, steak and bacon.
Tuffy Stone hails from Virginia, USA and is a classically trained French chef who later turned to the darkened meat side, opening a chain of BBQ restaurants and hosting reality show BBQ Pitmasters. Hillbilly Wes (pictured below) discovered a passion for BBQ on a trip to Texas, and after years working between the States and Oz, opened his own BBQ restaurant in Sydney, winning a ton of pitmaster medals along the way.
TOP BBQ MEAT AND BEER PAIRINGS WITH LIBERTY BREWING
Barbecued meat and beer go together like something that goes together real, real well. So we asked Liberty brewmasters for their top BBQ and beer matches (see below for links to purchase)...
- Chargrilled Burger + Liberty Yakima Monster – an easy drinking pale ale that’s super fruity and perfect for hop-heads.
- Chicken wings + Liberty C!tra double IPA, which has plenty of citrus and exotic fruit aromas and flavours to complement and counter hot marinades.
- Smoked brisket + Liberty Halo Pilsner, with loads of zesty citrus tempered by tropical fruits and sweet malts that match superbly with this smoky goodness.
Meatstock's two day New Zealand festival is being held at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds. Last year’s festival was a sell-out long before the event, so meat fans will be thrilled to hear that this week Toast has a Double Weekend Superpass to give to one lucky reader, allowing Saturday and Sunday entry for two people, plus children under 12 get in free. Please note: the prize includes entry to Meatstock only, the winners will need to make their own way to and from the event.
